Offshore Crane Foundation Design

Home » Offshore Crane Foundation Design

Challenge

Nobleseas have performed various engineering studies involving crane derating, modifications and retrofits to suit offshore environments.

The overall study scope is consist of following objectives:

  • Perform the derating of non-offshore crane (shore rating to offshore rating)
  • Perform stability checks while deriving acceleration, roll, pitch and yaw motions
  • Derive the limiting wave heights and wind speeds for the lifting operation while keeping within crane SWL.
  • Obtain verification and approval from Class of vessel

Scope

Foundation Design of 600T SWL Crane

Study Scope

The detailed scope of work involved following tasks:

  • Design of deck structure for the installation of 600T crane
  • Structural analysis of the modified scantlings
  • Stability calculation (acceleration, roll, pitch & yaw motions) of the barge crane
  • De-rating of the boom for offshore operation (shore rating to offshore rating)
  • Design verified and approved as per the class of vessel (ABS)

150T Knuckle Crane FE Analysis

Study Scope

The detailed scope of work involved following tasks:

  • FEM and analysis of crane pedestal structure for an OSV
  • Check the structure as per DNV Offshore codes
  • Proposed modifications in the design as per results while keeping the side shell of the vessel unchanged
  • Design verified and approved as per the class of vessel (DNV)

50T A-Frame FE Analysis and Structure Optimisation

Study Scope

The detailed scope of work involved following tasks:

  • Performed FEM and analysis of A- Frame foundation in ANSYS as per ABS Rule for a converted Well Intervention Vessel
  • Performed eigen value nonlinear buckling analysis in ANSYS
  • Optimised the structure for minimum steel weight
  • Design verified and approved as per the Class of vessel (ABS)
